Let me start off by giving you a brief introduction of myself. I have been a firefighter for 22 years now, serving on 2 volunteer departments and 1 career department. I have climbed through the ranks from Lt, Capt and currently hold the rank of Assistant Chief in my career department.
I'm inquiring about a radio for me personally to purchase. Mainly for work purposes. Our radio situation is a huge mess, radio procedures are so screwed up there that I do not feel safe enough when I am on shift using the radios provided to us. Our procedure in case of a situation that we need our Mutual Aid and if we are not in or near a vehicle that has APX8500s in them, is that we go get our single APX8000XE portable radio to contact one Communication Center to request them to contact another Communication Center to get them to dispatch our first initial Mutual Aid department. It's definitely not a good plan of action but it's what we have been doing since our Mutual Aid switched to the other Dispatch center as of January 1st. We no longer have a direct line of communication because we are on UHF and theirs is 700/800.
I would like to get my own radio that I would be able to have one radio that I can use for everything. I'm looking for an APX8000XE. Being I am on other fire departments as well, having one radio for work and volunteering would be very convenient for me.
I know this is a huge ask. Being this is personal, I would be paying for it myself. I'm not looking to break the bank, I have four little kids, two boys 7 and 2 year olds and twin girls that are only 18 months old. I just want to make sure that whether I'm at work or volunteering I always have ways of communication when I'm in a fire. I want to have another tool to make sure I come back home to my wife and kids.
This was my first time buying a radio from Dave and this experience was smooth and he has answered all my questions and helped me find the right radio equipment I needed and I couldn’t have been more happy ! Great prices!
